Each Biocyte Blockeur Forte capsule contains 500mg of vegetable chitosan extracted from the mycelium of aspergillus niger.

Nevertheless, we’re going to talk a little about this ingredient.

Chitosan is composed of D-glucosamine and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, and is produced, at least in the case of plant chitosan, from chitin found in the walls of certain fungi.

Once in the stomach, chitosan forms a kind of gel, which has an essential advantage:
In the stomach, chitosan gel binds with lipids. In fact, it has the capacity to retain approximately 15 times its weight in fat! This chitosan/fat substance cannot be metabolized, i.e. assimilated, by the body.

It is therefore simply eliminated through natural channels, thereby reducing the amount of fat absorbed by the body.

But in reality, things aren’t quite so simple. As chitosan is only soluble in a medium with a pH below 2, it is only effective in certain, very limited, parts of the digestive system.

It is for this reason that this ingredient acts on fats brought in by meals, and not on fats already stored by the body.

Chitosan therefore limits fat intake, rather than promoting the combustion of stored fat. This is in line with the promise made by Biocyte Blockeur Forte.

It also reduces cholesterol levels, promotes intestinal transit and detoxifies the body of heavy metals.

On the other hand, and for the sake of completeness, we feel it would be useful to talk about this ingredient’s limitations.

In fact, chitosan’s absorption capacity depends on the type of fat ingested. To illustrate this limitation, we refer to a study which compared the absorption of olive oil to ghee (Indian butter).

The second limitation is that chitosan is not soluble in a medium with a pH below 2.

What science has to say about Biocyte Blockeur Forte

Let’s take a closer look at the scientific data on chitosan.

A 2007 meta-analysis attempted to determine the role of chitosan on overweight and obesity.

Having reviewed 15 trials and no fewer than 1219 participants, the group of researchers behind this study concluded that chitosan is more effective than placebo in the short-term treatment of overweight and obesity.

These same researchers questioned the majority of trials carried out to date.

They also argued that, in view of the results obtained from high-quality trials, chitosan’s effect on body weight is minimal and unlikely to be of clinical significance. To be continued!

Of particular note is a study carried out on an experimental model which attempted to determine the interaction between chitosan and oil in the stomach and under duodenal digestive chemical conditions.

The researchers started from the widespread idea that chitosan has an effect on the absorption of dietary lipids, but that scientific knowledge of this mechanism remains insufficient.

This study showed that chitosan interacts well with oil. Its absorption in the duodenum would thus be reduced, and its elimination improved.

Side effects and contraindications

In the first few days of use, chitosan may cause gas, bloating, diarrhea or constipation in the most sensitive individuals.
