Chitosan 250 mg
Discovered in 1859 by C. Rouget chitosan (or chitosan) is now a component increasingly found in the composition of many dietary supplements designed for weight loss.
Before going any further, let us tell you that this product will not make you lose weight!
But we’ll reassure you and explain why: it’s not a fat burner, but rather a fat catcher! So it won’t destock fat that’s already there, but it won’t allow you to put any back on..
Good news, isn’t it? Coming soon, our opinion on Chitosan 250 mg. Is it effective? What about dosage? Will it be available in pharmacies?
Chitosan 250, a quick overview of a slimming aid
In a box of 90 tablets, you get a dietary supplement with a formula based solely on chitosan as the active ingredient.
Chitosan is a fiber extracted from chitin, a component found in the shells of crustaceans and seafood. The gelatin capsule also contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and magnesium stearate.
The chitosan used by the manufacturer of Chitosan 250 is of animal origin (exoskeleton of crustaceans, including crab, lobster and shrimp). It should be noted that a variant of chitosan can be extracted from mushroom walls.
It is recommended to take 4 capsules with each meal, once or twice a day. When taking the capsules, it is advisable to drink at least 250ml of water.
If taking other supplements, this should be done more than 2 hours before or after taking chitosan. That’s pretty much all the official Chitosan 250 website has to say about the product.
Chitosan, a popular but controversial slimming aid
As with Bauer Nutrition’s Chitosan 250, it’s an ingredient that finds its way into many slimming solution formulas because of its special relationship with fat. It is said to have a chemical affinity with lipids, with which it binds as soon as it is in their proximity.
Chitosan can “bind” around 15 times its own weight in lipids. As this bond cannot be metabolized, fats would not be absorbed by the body. The fats and chitosan would be eliminated naturally.
Seen in this light, we have the impression that the Fat Captor (with a capital C) is finally in our hands. Well, not everyone seems to share this opinion.
What we describe a few lines above is, according to some, more of a theory because, in practice, in order to bind to fats, chitosan must first be dissolved.
Studies show that this ingredient is only soluble in environments with a pH above 2, which is not the case inside our stomachs.
Chitosan would therefore only be effective in the upper intestine (pH above pH 2). That said, its role would be limited to capturing fats.
At present, we have no way of confirming or disproving this theory.
Science also has something to say about chitosan
Clinical trials on the effects of chitosan on weight loss were evaluated by the 2007 Cochrane meta-analysis. Findings suggest favorable changes in body weight and all cholesterol-related parameters, after taking chitosan compared with placebo.
Statistically significant changes were observed in the chitosan groups (with an average difference of -1.7 kg in body mass). Here’s a link to a scientific study on the slimming effects of Chitosan).
Furthermore, no side effects have been observed, particularly after ingestion of chitosan. In our opinion, if any contraindication were to arise for a Chitosan 250 user, it would be in relation to a possible allergy to shellfish and seafood.
Chitosan, known to the Japanese long ago
Many natural ingredients did not wait for scientific research to prove their effectiveness. In Japan, for example, chitosan has long been used as a stomach-protecting gel. And the practice of the ancients proves it. Chitosan 250 is designed to do just that.
If its manufacturer recommends taking 4 capsules with each meal once or twice a day, it’s because they believe Chitosan 250 will help you capture those new fats you’re about to ingest.
Taken with as much water as recommended, these capsules will transform into a sort of fiber-rich gel which will wait nicely for lipids to bind to it. The mechanism of action couldn’t be simpler.
What are the benefits of Chitosan 250mg?
On the official website of its manufacturer, whose products we have tested, we read that the chitosan present in the Chitosan 250 formula is used to treat obesity, high cholesterol and Crohn’s disease.
According to Bauer Nutrition, the product is also used to treat complications experienced by kidney failure patients on dialysis, including high cholesterol, anemia, loss of strength and appetite, and sleep problems (insomnia).
Chitosan is said to lower total LDL (or “bad”) cholesterol levels, while raising HDL (or “good”) cholesterol levels.
We wanted to dig a little deeper, to identify what chitosan is capable of offering in the way of health benefits. It appears to have other dietary properties that have been suggested but not yet proven:
- Promotes intestinal transit ;
- Reduces uric acid ;
- chelates heavy metals.
Chitosan 250, a cautious manufacturer!
Unlike other sellers and manufacturers, Chitosan 250 is listed under the heading “Vitamins for the body”, with no direct weight-loss claims in the main product presentation.
For example, this manufacturer advertises that Chitosan 250 is essential for 120 different enzymes present in our body, that it has incredible healing properties, that it helps prevent blood clots… At no point does it say that Chitosan 250 will make you lose weight!
The same manufacturer goes so far as to assert, in a short FAQ of 3 questions/answers, that Chitosan 250 will treat your acne problems, strengthen your immune system and chase away any infection, bacteria or harmful germs.
He won’t dwell on how it works as a fat catcher.
What is chitosan really worth in the slimming field?
This isn’t the first time we’ve talked about chitosan on TP. We’ve already devoted a blog to this ingredient.
Chitosan’s ability to bind to lipids and accompany them quietly out of the digestive system, via the normal natural pathways, is a real plus.
While there is a lack of conclusive scientific studies to clearly explain chitosan’s mechanism of action, other figures, this time from the world of business, reinforce chitosan’s status.
In fact, the chitosan trade has always done well: in 2000 alone, sales of chitosan-based weight loss tablets in the USA were estimated at US$6 million.
Even today, chitosan production continues to rise, especially as the areas of application for this ingredient have expanded: tissue regeneration in biomaterial medicine, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal plant protection, wastewater treatment…
Today, like Chitosan 250, many products (in capsule, capsule or powder form) represent a wide range of choices for people who want to lose weight, but don’t want to get frustrated by stopping eating fatty foods.
What about Chitosan 250mg dosage?
To the best of our knowledge, no ideal dose has yet been determined for taking chitosan. So why 250mg?
We believe that it is this dosage parameter that causes certain side effects to be felt by some users of animal-based Chitosan products, in general:
- Pain in the abdomen, flatulence and feelings of bloating;
- Diarrhea or constipation;
- In some cases, migraines and swelling of the ankles and wrists. The latter effects would be more related to the scenario of shellfish allergy.
That said, as with any dietary supplement, we urge you to be vigilant and observe your reactions to the treatment.
Where can I buy Chitosan 250?
We believe that the best place to buy this product is on its official website. This is due to a number of factors, such as the product’s guaranteed authenticity, quality assurance and money-back guarantee, and above all the security of the financial transaction. Don’t buy from just any site, and never give your bank details to a site you don’t know well.
Attention, this product is no longer on sale. Instead, I advise you to review this very serious alternative that has already proved its worth: PhenQ!
What we think of Chitosan 250
Let’s be clear: on its own, Chitosan 250 won’t make you lose weight. But, thanks to its fat-busting action, you can consider it as a real adjuvant if you have a well-thought-out plan to attack those unwanted kilos.
You can use Chitosan 250 to stabilize your lipid intake until you can change your diet in depth.]]>
