Meratrim is a slimming supplement in capsule form, formulated with fruit and flower extracts, and claimed by its manufacturer to have a number of interesting weight-loss benefits.

Meratrim could :

In addition to these slimming benefits, Meratrim has been clinically proven to deliver visible results within the first 2 weeks of use. The recommended dosage is 2 capsules a day, one (1) in the morning and one (1) in the evening, to be taken before meals.

Meratrim’s effectiveness is due to its action on adiponectin levels. Let’s take a closer look at what adiponectin is and how it can influence body weight.

Adiponectin
Adiponectin is a hormone secreted by adipose tissue which plays an important role in lipid and glucose metabolism. High or at least correct levels of adiponectin reduce glucose production in the body, as well as triglyceride content, while increasing fatty acid oxidation. It also reduces the risk of Type II diabetes, and has anti-inflammatory and anti-stress properties. Its action is therefore said to help reduce fat storage.

Meratrim is not only a slimming supplement, but also a patented blend of 2 ingredients: Sphaeranthus indicus and Garcinia mangostana. This patented blend is the property of Interhealth USA, now part of the Lonza Group, a world-renowned laboratory which designs and manufactures drugs and blends for the pharmaceutical industry and the dietary supplement market. Their L-Carnitine Carnipure, for example, has been the subject of several scientific studies and is recognized for its efficacy.

What’s the difference between these supplements? In fact, for some, there is none at all!

Meratrim ingredients

Sphaeranthus indicus Sphaeranthus indicus is a member of the Asteraceae family, of which there are some 1,500 genera, including the indicus genus. The plant grows mainly in India, and studies into its properties are still in the preliminary stages. It is said to have promising anti-cancer and anti-allergy properties, and in an experiment carried out on diabetic mice, it was shown to be effective in normalizing body weight and blood glucose levels. For the time being, further studies, particularly on humans, are needed to validate the properties of this plant.

Garcinia mangostana Garcinia mangostana: not to be confused with garcinia cambogia, highly prized by manufacturers of slimming supplements for its slimming properties. Here, we’re simply dealing with mangosteen, a fruit of the garcinia family that contains xanthones, the active substances for which mangosteen is highly sought-after. Xanthones are also said to have anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. They are also said to have a healing effect on digestive tract disorders. To date, however, there is insufficient data to prove the virtues of mangosteen for the conditions indicated and for weight loss.

Among the manufacturer’s announcements concerning Meratrim’s action on the body, we have seen that these capsules are supposed to have an effect on adiponectin levels, which in turn should inhibit fat storage. However, the ingredients in Meratrim’s formulation do not appear to have any particular effect on this hormone, or on fat burning or metabolism for that matter.

Meratrim and science

On the official website, you can see the results of a clinical study conducted with Meratrim on overweight adults. For 16 weeks, subjects took Meratrim 2 times a day, in addition to following a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet and exercising for 30 minutes 5 times a day.

Results showed that subjects in the Meratrim group lost an average of 4kg more than those taking the placebo.

Subjects taking Meratrim also had a greater loss of hip and waist circumference.

Side effects and contraindications of Meratrim

According to the manufacturer, but also based on the information we’ve gathered about Meratrim’s ingredients, it would appear that this supplement presents no health hazard.

However, as a precautionary measure, we do not recommend this supplement for pregnant or breast-feeding women.

Meratrim is available on various e-commerce sites for parapharmacies and dietary supplements. On average, a box of 60 capsules, equivalent to a 1-month course of treatment, costs 27,59€.
