This is a tree cultivated for its fruit or leaves, and found mainly in the Far East and North America.

The Japanese mulberry leaves used here are said to contain a substance called Zuccarin, as well as 1-deoxynojirimicin (DNJ), which have the following properties:

• regulate blood sugar levels
